ESPN's Adam Schefter reports an MRI has confirmed Jimmy Garoppolo's initial diagnosis of a torn left ACL.
Patriots placed RB Rex Burkhead (neck) on injured reserve.
The Patriots tipped this move after re-signing Kenjon Barner. Neck injuries can be serious, so it's possible Burkhead is shut down for the season.

"We’ll see how I feel tomorrow," Roethlisberger said. If Roethlisberger has an injury, he likes to keep the uncertainty high for as long as possible.
Devonta Freeman (knee) did not practice Thursday.
It is the second missed session in a row after he sat out Wednesday.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera would still like Christian McCaffrey to rush 15-20 times per game while catching "6-10 passes."
McCaffrey touched the ball "just" 16 times in Week 1.
Raiders OC Greg Olson said the team plans to move Amari Cooper around the formation "a lot."
Olson said the same is true of Jared Cook. "Critical to our success," Olson emphasized. Olson and coach Jon Gruden lived up to that pledge on Monday, running Cooper out of the slot on 45.2 percent of his routes.

Steelers LG Ramon Foster and C Maurkice Pouncey expressed frustration with Le'Veon Bell continuing his holdout on Wednesday.
"What do you do? Here’s a guy who doesn’t give a damn, so I guess we’ll treat it as such. I just hate it came to this," Foster said.
Doug Baldwin (knee) is practicing in full for Week 1 against the Broncos.
Rashaad Penny (hand) was also a full participant. Baldwin's Week 1 availability was never in doubt, though the 29-year-old recently admitted he won't be 100 percent this season,
Earl Thomas practiced on Wednesday.
Jay Ajayi (foot) is not listed on the Week 1 injury report and will play Thursday against the Falcons.
ESPN Redskins reporter John Keim confirmed Adrian Peterson will start Week 1 against the Cardinals.
Coach Jay Gruden said Jordan Reed is "in great shape" and will play Week 1 against the Cardinals.

Packers signed QB Aaron Rodgers to a four-year, $134 million extension through 2023.
Rodgers' former teammate and current NFL Network analyst James Jones reports Rodgers gets over $100 million guaranteed.
Giants signed WR Odell Beckham to a five-year, $95 million extension through 2023.
The deal includes $65 million guaranteed.
Saints acquired QB Teddy Bridgewater and a 2019 sixth-round pick from the Jets in exchange for a 2019 third-round pick.

Seahawks acquired QB Brett Hundley from the Packers in exchange for a 2019 sixth-round pick.
Seahawks signed WR Tyler Lockett to a three-year, $31.8 million extension through 2021.
The deal is worth a max value of $37.8 million and contains $20 million guaranteed.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) will miss "at least" the first two games of the season.
The Athletic's Jeff Howe reports the "sense" around the Patriots "isn't as strong" that Sony Michel (knee) will be ready for Week 1 as it is for Rex Burkhead's (knee) availability.
Bucs released RB Charles Sims with an injury settlement.
It means the knee injury Sims suffered in the Bucs' second preseason game was not season-ending
Browns released LB Mychal Kendricks.
In a statement, GM John Dorsey indicated Kendricks told the team of the legal situation he was facing before he was signed, but he did not give them all of the facts, or at least suggested the facts had since changed. Kendricks has been charged by federal investigators for insider trading
